Taxidermist Likes to Hunt
By Gary Bell - GameCalls.Net Prostaff

Terry Saba, owner of Natural Arts Taxidermy and board member of the Idaho Taxidermy Association not only works hard preparing other hunter's mounts, but has preserved quite a few of his own. Terry started in taxidermy as a teenager over 20 years ago and continues to enjoy preserving his and other's wildlife treasures. He uses all the traditional taxidermy services that are available but also uses many of the techniques

One of Terry's Many Fine Works

used today by taxidermists. When Terry is not too busy working at his taxidermy shop, he enjoys the great outdoors by going hiking in the mountains and hunting, as he has hunted several species of game such as coyote, elk, goat and duck. He is currently out duck hunting as this story is being produced. One of Terry's works pictured here on the left is a coyote that he called in with a Johnny Stewart Electronic call using a Cottontail Rabbit in Distress tape. The Coyote was taken with a 22-250 Remington rifle. Terry adds that he also likes to use Sceery and Knight and Hale hand held calls for when he is out hunting coyotes. Coyotes are considered predatory and are unprotected in Idaho and can be hunted or taken all year long as can jackrabbits, skunks, weasels, starling, marmot, fox squirrels, porcupines, Paiute and Columbian ground squirrels, English sparrows and feral pigeons according to the Idaho Fish & Game hunting rules and regulations.

Shown below is a picture of Terry with a Rocky Mountain Goat that he shot and took last fall and is very proud of. The goat was listed as the 21st largest recorded goat in Idaho. Terry added that he didn't even call this goat in. Goat season opened this year on August 30th and lasts through November 12th in Idaho. (Story continues below).

Terry with a very nice Rocky Mountain Goat, the 21st largest in Idaho

Terry with the 6x6 elk that he took with his bow
The picture on the left is of a great looking 6x6 Elk that Terry shot with his bow and called in with a Jones Diaphragm Elk Call, not bad at all for a bow kill. He says that he likes to use Jones diaphragm calls for all of his Elk hunting and he has had great success with that brand. Archery season ran from August 30th through September 30th in Idaho. Antlered elk can be taken by any weapon through parts of October and early November. Muzzleloader season starts up November 10th through November 29th in certain areas, also with the requirement of the elk being antlered. There will be another archery and muzzleloader season starting in December. Terry mentioned that he likes to use Falks wa-33a , The DD-120 by P.S. Olt and also a wooden Duck Commander and a
plastic Duck Commander for hunting ducks, which just opened on October 12th.
You can view several of Terry's mounts and even some rugs he has made in the photo album on his website by clicking HERE. Terry "learned the art of taxidermy as an apprentice for Lyons & O'Haver Taxidermy, and with Jerry Moydell of Moydell's Taxidermy, located in San Diego, California". Terry and his wife, along with some friends, built his shop out of a Steelmaster kit and cordwood. On his web site, he mentions that the cordwood is really great because you "don't have to look for studs to hang your mounts on".
